Moss mould growing on trunk of plant

Why is moss growing on the trunk?

There are several reasons for moss growing on the trunk:

  • Environment: Dense planting of fruit trees, heavy shading of branches and leaves, prolonged high humidity in the orchard, poor ventilation, and insufficient light transmission in the orchard; excessive soil moisture.
  • Excessive use of foliar fertilizers, especially those with heavy acidity, can cause moss to grow on tree branches and spread to leaves and fruits.
  • Tree vigor: Weak tree vigor and old age can cause the plant’s root system to age and reduce its resistance.

To alleviate this:

  1. Prune smaller, severely affected branches, leaving most of the thicker branches intact.
  2. Purchase an iron brush from a gardening or hardware store. Use it to scrub the moss off the thicker branches.
  3. Apply Mr Ganick Bamboosa Extract or Mr Ganick Cuka Kayu Concentrate (for smaller gardens), diluted with 50ml + 1L of water, sprayed on the moss-covered tree stems. **Note: Only spray on the stems, do not spray on leaves or young branches.
  4. Apply once a week, repeating this treatment at least 3 times. If it rains within 3 hours after spraying, repeat the treatment. Apply during the daytime.
  5. Improvement should be observed after about 3 treatments. The moss will gradually fade and lighten during these 3 treatments.
